Mallorca: Pearl of the Mediterranean – Cultural Tour 1 April – 6 April

  • Monday 1st to Saturday 6th April 2019
    (5 nights, 6 days)

Our multi-day trip this season goes to Mallorca. We will stay in Palma, the capital, from where we will make day excursions to other interesting parts of this beautiful island. In Palma we will visit the magnificent 14th century cathedral, a masterpiece of Gothic architecture with work by Gaudi and the largest rose window of all Gothic cathedrals. Nearby is the Es Baluard Museum of Modern & Contemporary Art which we will also visit.  It houses paintings, sculptures, etc by Cézanne, Gauguin, Picasso, Miró, Giacometti and others.

Our day excursions take us to the charming town of Valldemossa and the Monastery where Frederic Chopin and George Sand spent a winter in 1838/1839 and also on the scenic west coast to lovely Deía and Soller for visits to the Robert Graves Museum and the Can Prunera Modern Museum.  We make a trip to Alcudia in the north for a guided tour of the walled old town and a visit to Sa Bassa Blanca museum and its sculpture park and rose garden.  Our final excursion is a visit to La Porciúncula, a round church with stained glass ‘walls’, the Joan Miró Foundation and then the oldest museum of Mallorca’s crafts and traditions, La Granja.
